Sassy Mail

I got my sassy mail yesterday. Yeah! Remember back when I mentioned I joined the Sassy Apron Swap? I got mine in the mail today and my secret partner is Tracy. She did a lot of work by hand: embroidery and trim on the tea towel, sewing on the rick rack on the apron. She even crocheted a wash cloth for me. Thank you, Tracy.

I tried the apron on to show Brett last night and the first thing Kira said was, "mommy so pretty". Then, the second thing she said was, "Kiki's turn". Guess what the third thing she said was?

"Kiki so pretty." She even did a little dance. She pretty much wore the apron the whole night. At one point, she was wearing it as a cape. She ran around the house saying, "Kiki superman!" Sorry I have to break this to you, kid. Superheros with a cape rarely have happy endings. Watch The Incredibles and you'll understand.

Kira attempted to wash Hayden's hair. Well, the few tiny strands that were on his head.

"What? I am not that dirty."

I also sent out my box to my secret partner yesterday. Here's how I packed the box:

I had great plans for the tea towel but my machine broke as I was finishing the apron. In the end, I had to borrow a friend's machine to finish the last few touches. Can't believe my stupid machine deserted me when I needed it most. Here are a couple of pictures of me wearing the apron I sent out. Please excuse the silliness. It's like I was possessed when I wore the apron. I guess I was too excited to have finished it.

The apron is reversible. One side has the embroidery I showed back on this post on the top bodice and a monkey print on the skirt.

The theme of this swap is summer and nothing says summer to me like the beach. The other side of the apron is that Amy Butler print that I liked so much I made 3 things out of. (See this post.) I guess when I like something, I stick to it. (Aren't you lucky, Brett? :-p )

New Fancy Camera

I just got a new fancy camera... it's a replacement for my old fancy camera that broke. Anyways, I've been trying it out and taking lots of pictures of the kids. Here are some more. Oh... not that I don't want to take pictures of Kira, she just didn't want to be photographed. I will try and get more of her in the next little while.

Kira working on a project... someone will be getting it in the mail soon.

Mom, take a good look at these. How can you still say Hayden doesn't look like me???? Aunt Christine, help me out! Especially this first picture. He looks EXACTLY like me.

Hot Hot Hot

First of all, Hayden would like to thank everyone who emailed to advocate for his well being. For the record, he never left the house in a dress so he wasn't really seen in public as a girl... although I am not sure if having his picture on the web is better or worse.

It'd been a crazy hot few days over the weekend. Kira told me many times that "mommy too hot" and "daddy crazy hot". We took them as compliments. We took advantage of the nice weather and went outside.

We went back to the zoo for the first time since the incident. Kira was sporting a big girl version of that dress that Hayden wore.

We went to a outdoor birthday party on Saturday. Doesn't this girl look lovely in the hat, hugging the bottle of water?

Hayden had a hard time with the heat. His face, neck, arms and legs were super rashy. Thank goodness it's cooler now. I think SF has turned all of us into weather wimps.

They Will Never Forgive Me

For the record, I love my son. He is my favorite baby boy in the world and I really really really won't trade him for anything in the world.

Having said that, I wanted another girl when I was pregnant with him. I wanted to make little dresses for my baby girl. I can still make dresses for Kira but she is bigger so making things for her is harder. Sometimes, she won't wear things I make. Other times, it takes a lot of fabric to make something and I get really mad when I make a mistake. In any case, it's easier and in my opinion more fun to make things for tiny baby girls.

Where is this going? Well, I made a dress for a friend's daughter. She is one year old but about the same size as my sumo baby. So I used Hayden as my model. The dress is done and it's so darn cute that I couldn't resist putting it on... Hayden. I know, I know. Brett and Hayden will never forgive me for putting these pictures up but I can't resist.

"Get this off me!!!! What are you doing??? Help, daddy!!!!"

"I am so goofy!"

A fake smile. He is actually still screaming and tearing at the dress.

The back of the dress.

"What have you done? I can never show my face again! I'd rather be naked than wearing a dress."

"Finally got that dress off me!"

"Well, I am actually kinda pretty."

"All boy again! Yeah! Daddy, don't leave me with that mad woman again."

Got Milk?

Here are the new posters for the Got Milk? campaign:

Here is a sign language version:

Kira's friend, Dylan, came over the play the other day and I caught this video. It gives me so much hope for the future when the kids play together nicely and can entertain each other. I was also impressed by their "robot building abilities". Yeah, kids!

A Bad Day for Paper Dolls

Kira's been taught to never touch scissors but other kids were doing it at the BADM so I let her try. She's gotta learn some time, right.

I sat down with her and showed her how to cut paper, making sure that she doesn't cut anything else. While she was practicing, I mindlessly cut her a bunch of paper doll and other paper creatures. I made her an octopus, a dog, a boy - which she said was daddy, a girl - mommy, a string of bunnies and and a string of girls. At first, she was quite happy to see them and tried to stand them up. But very soon, she started the major massacre of 08. She clipped all the extremities of the creatures and chopped off the mommy doll's head while laughing and making cutting sounds. I didn't capture that on tape. By the time I took out the camera, she's in more of a calm cutting trance. Should I take her to a shrink or should I just run for my life now??

One Fine Day

The weather has been gorgeous and we've been out a lot. Here are some happy kids at play pictures.

Hayden chilling next to the water bed.

"What? How does this work??"

Kira's attempt that the letter "A".

It took two years but she finally figured out how to get in and out of the tunnel.

Hayden hung out with me on his stroller while Kira played. He was so calm and mellow. What a good baby!

My daughter's being attacked by a giant bee!

One more picture of that handsome handsome boy.
